The Teacher Education Program at Emory & Henry College

The Emory & Henry program in teacher education combines an academic major with classroom courses and field experience in education and leads to certification to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our students usually begin their early field experience during the sophomore year with Introduction to Education, a one-credit-hour course that combines preparation for the Praxis I assessment with observation hours in public school classrooms.

All initial licensure areas are available in two options, the undergraduate (4-year B.A.) and the Five-year (B.A. plus M.Ed. in Professional Studies). Most requirements of the undergraduate program apply in the Five-year program, along with additional requirements at the graduate level. Some course numbers will be different, so stay in close correspondence with your Education Department faculty advisor to make sure that you register correctly.

Program course checksheets, available under the Forms link below, list the requirements in both the undergraduate and the Five-year options.
